Eating out on Nantucket Island can be an event in itself. From haute cuisine to mom-and-pop takeout joints, there are dozens of options to choose from when you are planning your meals.
The island's restaurant community also is involved in several large-scale events, including the Nantucket Wine Festival which every May brings together top winemakers and top chefs to present a week of events, seminars, tastings, and special dinners.
Every autumn, island restaurants organize the Annual Chowder Contest. Held in October, this popular event is featured during the Nantucket Island Chamber of Commerce "Fall On Nantucket" celebration. More than 600 people taste chowders from Nantucket restaurants and vote for their favorite. Proceeds from this event benefit the Nantucket Chamber of Commerce, Nantucket High School's Culinary Arts Program and The Nantucket Boys' and Girls Club.
